One thing I want to add today.
If you have addiction in your “circle” of friends or family,
know this: You are not alone.
There’s no need to hide it. It’s a reality.
Sometimes I wonder how in the heck this country can even
function with the many doped up, drugged up, drunk up folks out here!
When your significant friend, other, relative…finally gets
hold of getting right and sober again, tell him/her this…and mean it.
“I love you. WE love you. I will always be on your side. And
do whatever you wish EXCEPT the abuse….don’t touch the substance. If you will
be faithful to this, I/We will be faithful to ignore any other shortcomings
because its your life”.
For those of you who are bearing the brunt of the
situation..Maybe you are raising a grandchild; maybe you have financial
responsibility related to the situation…Maybe YOU are going through more than
you can bear.
Tell someone. Get the support of others. Don’t just think
you have to bite the bullet and endure. Get prayer. Get relief. But hang in
there. And read the posts in this article about NOT being an Enabler.
We all need to review this often.
I am married to an enabler of all kinds of things..He is a
FIXER. Always FIXING.
I have to remember that I need to constantly strive NOT to
be a FIXER. And NOT to think I am responsible for everyone else’s happiness.
I am cheering for you. Hang in there. Get help. Open up. You
are not alone.
