I have a confession to make. I have a Face Book page.
First off, no, I am not afraid some murderer or rapist will gather information about me and stalk me. He wouldn't want me. There would be little to gain. Very little.
But, as I enjoy FB and the many one or two liner communications with friends, relatives, and old class mates, I have noticed something this past week. I have observed that each one of these people is a valuable contribution to a whole; to a composite where all the puzzle pieces make an beautiful picture. Each one of these souls enrich my life, and if one of them is erased from the scene, its a loss.
This is a microcosm of the many parts and roles others play in our lives, I know. But, it is only an example. Some of the friends and relatives in our lives pass through our lives at times of great need. Some are there all the time. Others come and go, and enrich us as well.
I believe that the God of all creation has made each of us unique, and each of us has something to give to this life. Each one has a gift...each one has a part.
When God created man and woman, he breathed into them the life from Himself and made each flesh and blood person a living soul. His plan always was to fellowship with man (woman) and he created man to also fellowship with Him. But when Satan fell, and sin legally entered the world arena, the playing field changed. Adam sinned and separated himself from God. So God made a plan...a redeemer was in the works. God had a plan to send His Son.
Now, I am deviating from what I want to say.
I have been present at the passing of several elderly relatives; I have seen the obvious transition when the living spirit of the person leaves. The emptying of the person's spirit...it's departure from the body... is obvious if you are paying attention. It is the first process. The body then shuts down. As morbid as this sounds, it is not. It is total assurance that the separate, individual, personal, spirit of that person is passing on...leaving the old pysical carcass behind.
And I have noticed that when that person "leaves" that there seems to be a hole; a space that has been vacated, and which will be empty for a while. It's as though the space is still there, but the personality is gone...We first noticed this when one particular parent left. This parent was a strong willed soul, and it took at least two or three days before we didn't any longer feel that presence.
So, each of us is a very significant being. I want to stress that. And the loss of one of any of those who are a part of our "sphere" of friends, acquaintances, and relatives, is felt when they leave.
So, count it a wonderful happy thing to value each influence or personality in your life. Appreciate every one of them; even the critics, or nay sayers. Each one in our lives is important and a piece of the pie. And each is a unique, valuable, soul; created to be a part of God's plan.
And why are we each here? We are here hopefully to do God's will; to fulfill His plans and purpose for us. We are called to do our very best to help one another.
So what happens when a loved one is addicted to a substance or alcohol. Do we regard the individual as one whose purpose is yet to be revealed? Do we know that the person is an important part of our life?Do we understand that the soul is a God-given, talent filled, life that has value and worth? All these questions cross our mind as we struggle with the illness. But the issue is more than that. The addiction is not the person. The person is a living soul and we must continue to have hope and do what we can. And never, never give up
